SJE v SLC in MLS!

football betting tips -

You have already seen at least part of two of this weekend's clubgowi previews and we had a winner at odds of 3.50 on the Reims-Dunkerque game and Sungae Im is tied for second after two round of the FedEx playoff event, so we are well placed there. There have also been previews of nine football games taking place this weekend across four leagues (MLS/Championship/League 1 and League 2) and you can read one of those below. There will be a further four in the Sunday newsletter and the season is in immediate overdrive for us. There is still time to sign up for the 2026/27 season, either via the "join now" website page, or by emailing us via gowi8@btinternet.com which will also save you some money

MLS:San Jose Earthquakes- St Louis City

I previewed the reverse fixture at the end of April....

Earthquakes under MLS legendary head coach Bruce Arena have further kicked on from last season's significant improvement and have won 8 of 9 games. 12 months ago I wrote about that potential ......

San Jose Earthquakes : expected numbers suggest they should have been a massive 19 points and 26 goals better off and gives them a good potential upside. The Bruce Arena era has now arrived, he is the new head coach , not a new stadium and Arena is vastly experienced and has been in charge of a MLS team, or the National side since 1996. He was last at New England Revolution between 2019-2023 and what he achieved there and immediately was remarkable and Earthquakes will be looking for a repeat. He took charge of the club in June, at that time they were bottom of the table, they immediately went 12 games unbeaten and eventually make the playoffs. The following season Revolution advanced to the Eastern Conference final for the first time in six years and in 2021 they won their first Supporters Shield with a then record number of points!

He might be able to get an easy and quick upgrade in goal, as Brazilian Daniel looks fit again, he posted MLS best goalkeeper numbers in 2023, his replacement(s) league worst stats in 2024. Arena will have spent all the off season getting his team disciplined and well set up, that is his modus operandi and he has drafted in players he felt were needed and/or he knew, five arriving from Revolution. And as we know, "you won't fool the Children of the Revolution"!

So they will, not should, be more solid, will be better coached and also look upgraded offensively, having signed RSL Striker Chicho Arango (53 goals and 13 assists in 92 appearances) and veteran Josef Martinez ( 116 goals and 18 assists in 184 appearances) who is a former MLS Cup winner and MVP. They have two quality playmakers and what's not to like ?

San Jose are a BIG potential improver.

They were 20 points and 34 goals better off ( scoring 19 more, conceding 15 fewer) with Martinez and Arango ( see above) scoring a combined 27 goals. However, Arena was happy to let the duo go and younger players in Preston Judd and Ousseni Bouda have picked up the slack with a 13 goal contribution already and they and new signing Timo Werner ( 5 goal contribution in his 6 games since arriving) better fit how the head coach wants to play. Goalkeeper Daniel remains top notch and he has five clean sheets and has only conceded four goals this season. Arena understands defensive structure and is elite at half time adjustments ( SJE have a 14-1 second half goal difference).  This feels like a huge game for Earthquakes, as they have yet to beat the still new SLC franchise losing all six h2h meetings, but the two look to be heading in opposite directions and City have not kept a clean sheet in 12 starts, conceding 20 goals.
That sounds a long time ago, but only a respective 9 and 10 MLS games have been played subsequently.

Anyway I went big on SJE to score twice and indeed they did, winning 3-2 and breaking that duck ( see above), but St Louis have scored 2+ goals in all seven h2h meetings.

SJE have lost their way, winning just one of eight subsequent starts and have conceded 21 goals in their last 10 league outings. SLC are 6-2-0 across their last 8 MLS starts, scoring 15 goals and these two have reversed again and heading in opposite directions.

St Louis City to score "over" 1.5 goals @ 2.17 asian line.

Good luck!
