What a feast!
Oct 21, 2026

Yesterday I noted .........
It is , as you were, in the Champions League and the goals have flowed over the first two rounds, with 22 of the 36 games (61.11%) producing 4+ and 17 (47.22%) seeing 5 or more goals. Those numbers are huge, are nothing new and why the world watches these fixtures. To give them some context, the new Premier League season is running at a respective 35.7% and 20%.
Looking at this week's Champions League games it is difficult to see any real drop off in goals and we can expect to continue to be royally entertained and that is good for everybody and especially the sport when it is dealing with the Manchester City saga and Infantinogate.
The goals flowed with another 40 (4.44 per games) and PSG and Barcelona played out a classic as they invariably do when the pair meet. End to end football, 40 attempts, six goals (might easily have been 9-10) with 13 saves, about six of them world class and the woodwork coming to the rescue twice and no let up in the action for a single second, despite injuries picked up by Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Olmo. The only shame was that there were only three added minutes at the end of each half! When much is wrong in the world of football, it was impossible to watch that feast and not remember exactly why you grew up loving the game! I have seen too many cynical performances from teams with talent in the EPL this season and I hope they were watching!
I have previewed four Champions League games today and hope to "win" but also that we see some more thrilling football and that all Big 5 league teams and coaches are watching and are inspired.
Good luck!
